Pompette

November 6, 2024 Eat Drink Magazine

Entering the scene in Portsea last year, the village’s casual wine bar Pompette is the perfect spot for an intimate gathering, whether you’re looking for a light meal or a quick bite and drink before heading out or heading home.

Reminiscent of the bars à vin of his birthplace in southern France, Loïc Duchet and his wife Kirsty purchased the venue in 2023 with the intention of transforming it into the type of place they would frequent themselves. As a couple who love bringing people together, conversing with friends and family over delicious food and wine, the pair have lent their personality to the wine bar – it is relaxed, charming and unpretentious.

Small plates, to be shared or savoured individually, include cheeses, cured meats, duck sliders and traditionally prepared escargot. Loïc’s homemade chicken liver parfait is a popular choice and the ideal accompaniment to a glass of wine.

An open fire adds to the ambience during winter, making it the best place to enjoy a cosy evening or Sunday lunch during the cooler months.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more extensive range of French wines elsewhere on the Peninsula, so here’s your opportunity to pick from the best. With an ever-increasing selection of local wines, there’s even a special Reserves List for functions.

Expanding the choice for diners at Portsea, Pompette has raised the bar.

Opening hours: Thursday and Saturday 5pm-late; Friday 3pm-late; Sunday noon-3pm; check online for seasonal hours
